“We shall safeguard the revolutionary gains” President Museveni kicks off 2026 campaigns in Luweero,

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the 2026 elections, today launched his presidential campaign in Luweero District, pledging to safeguard Uganda’s revolutionary gains and drive citizens into the money economy.

The campaign running under the theme: “Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status,” was launched at Bukalasa Agricultural College playground, drawing thousands of supporters, including the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni.

Addressing the crowd, President Museveni recounted Uganda’s journey from economic collapse at independence to the present, highlighting peace, industrial growth, and the rise of commercial agriculture.

He cited examples of citizens benefiting from government programs, including Hon. Fred Byamukama, State Minister for Transport, who earns Shs 55 million monthly from egg farming.

“Only 33% of Ugandans remain outside the money economy. Through agriculture, industry, skilling, and manufacturing, we shall ensure everyone joins,” the President said. He highlighted the role of Presidential Skilling Hubs in youth empowerment and urged citizens to monitor corruption in programs such as Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga.

On education and healthcare, Museveni vowed to eliminate illegal school fees in government schools and tackle theft of drugs in health centers, emphasizing enforcement and recruitment of more teachers. On land, he reassured bibanja holders of legal protection and long-term government plans to pay off landlords.

The President also spoke on the forthcoming petroleum production as an economic boost and promised increased funding for government programs: Shs 300 million for urban parishes and an additional Shs 15 million for rural leaders.

On his part, the NRM First National Vice Chairman, Al Hajji Moses Kigongo, congratulated President Museveni and thanked the people of Luweero for turning up in big numbers, saying they were all happy to see their candidate. “Maama Janet, the people of Luweero are happy to see you. As NRM, we are ready to ensure that the people give us full support.”

The NRM Deputy Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Rose Namayanja Nsereko, commended President Museveni for his visionary leadership that has steered Luweero and Uganda at large to significant progress across key sectors of the economy.

During the same event, the President, who is also the NRM National Chairman, handed over the party flag to the NRM parliamentary flag bearers in Luweero District.

The event was attended by NRM Central Executive Committee members, Members of Parliament, religious and cultural leaders, and thousands of supporters.
