"Bobi Wine & His Group Should Stop Dreaming Of Change Of Gov't Next Year, That Is Beyond Impossible" Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja Tells Off

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has sent a clear message to Ugandans and opposition supporters ahead of next year’s elections: she does not expect any change of government. Her remarks come as Uganda prepares for presidential elections early next year.

Speaking to health workers and local leaders in Kayunga District last week, Ms. Nabbanja dismissed the hopes of opposition supporters who are calling for a new leader to replace President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power for nearly 40 years.

“I hear opposition supporters talking about change in the upcoming election. Let me tell you the hard truth, I don’t expect any change,” Nabbanja said, emphasizing her confidence in the ruling party’s strength.

During her visit to Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital, the Prime Minister praised government projects in the area, claiming they are proof of the benefits of supporting Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

“Look at this hospital, it’s one of the best in the country. You have it because you voted for NRM leaders. But look at Mukono Municipality, which votes for the Opposition—they don’t have such a hospital because their MP, Ms. Betty Nambooze, doesn’t approach us for development projects,” Nabbanja stated.

The Prime Minister argued that NRM supporters are confident about the elections because the opposition candidates are “not strong enough” to challenge President Museveni. She encouraged voters in Kayunga to continue supporting the ruling party.

Since 1996, the opposition has made several attempts to remove Museveni through elections, but each time the Electoral Commission has declared him the winner. Nabbanja’s remarks seem intended to remind voters of this long history.

According to Uganda’s electoral roadmap, all eight presidential candidates officially begin their campaigns today, and the campaigns will run for about three months. This period is expected to intensify political debates across the country.

Observers say Nabbanja’s statements reflect the ruling party’s confidence and strategy to maintain voter loyalty by highlighting the tangible benefits of NRM governance. It also signals a clear warning to opposition supporters about the uphill battle they face.

As the election season kicks off, the focus will be on how opposition candidates, including Bobi Wine, plan to respond to these claims and mobilize voters. The coming months are likely to be full of political activity, rallies, and debates, as Uganda heads toward another pivotal election.
