Sippi Trekkers Win Lyca Super T20 Tourney

Final
Bujjagali Rafters 66/8
Sippi Trekkers 67/6
Sippi Trekkers won by 4 wickets
Sippi Trekkers emerged the shocking winners of the Lyca Super T20 after their stunning 4-wicket win against Bujjagali Rafters in the finals on Monday.
Prior their 30-run win against bottom side Karuma Rapids on Sunday, Sippi, captained by Janet Mbabazi had not won a single game. Barring the one point they got on Match day three in the abandoned game, they had lost all their games- losing twice to Bujjagali and as many times to Itanda Kayakers.
Their elevation journey began with that Sunday victory as it ensured they finish the double round robin stage placed third which meant they face Itanda- placed second- in the Eliminator to decide who progresses to the final.
Like aforementioned, the Trekkers lost twice to Itanda, but they shocked everyone when they turned the tables, beating Rita Musamali’s team by 15 runs to progress to the final.
They went on to deliver another shocker in the final, comprehensively beating Bujjagali who had comfortably won all their games enroute to the final.
Malisa Ariokot produced a peerless display in the final, claiming five wickets in a row, but not even her brilliance was enough to deny the Trekkers the trophy; that, owing to the paltry score Bujjagali set.
Mbabazi and her teammates had the all-firing Bujjagali set only 66/8 which they chased with an Over spare.
The Lyca Super T20 has been a talent-revelation tournament. Since the first ball was bowled on Tuesday last week, it’s been a progressive revelation of raw talent, and the good news for these youngsters is that the action has happened in the presence or Deus Muhumuza- the head coach of the Victoria Pearls and his assistant Brian Masaba who both watched every game.
The usual suspects excelled in various aspects, with Musamali winning the Best Batters award, Ariokot- Best Bowler and Immaculate Nakisuuyi taking the MVP award, but the real winners of this tournament have been the unknown; the quintet of Mariam Biribawa, Peace Ninsiima, Sheilla Namagoba, Sonia Nampeera and Tahia Nassuna especially taking the front row.
The five have been exceptional with the ball especially, Biribawa finishing the tournament with 10 wickets; her best bowling figures being 4/6.
They have left a mark; one that the coaching team surely noticed.
