The Independent Online Journalists Association-Uganda (INDOJA-UG) has come out to stand in unwavering solidarity with journalist David Mwesigwa of Galaxy TV and Radio, following the unfortunate and unacceptable directives by the Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja ordering his arrest after he exposed the dire state of health facilities in Mukono, Kayunga and Namuganga Hospitals.
The President of INDOJA -UG revealed this in a statement Andrew Irumba on Sunday 28th September 2025.
“As President of INDOJA-UG, media owner and a practicing journalist, I remind the Prime Minister that at one time, it is the very media she now seeks to curtail that quoted her in the corridors of Parliament castigating
government for failing to provide adequate services to her own constituents of Kakumiro, when she was still just a Member of Parliament”
He said that instead of ordering her arrest then, President Museveni chose to bring her closer and has since worked with her to address the issues she raised—an opportunity that paved her path to
where she stands today.
“We therefore demand that the Prime Minister retracts her statements ordering the arrest of journalist Mwesigwa” he stated.
He also revealed that in her own remarks during her visit to Kayunga Hospital, the Prime Minister admitted finding overwhelming numbers of patients, including pregnant mothers sleeping on the floor.
“I personally visited Kayunga Hospital on August, 6th and patients told me that oxygen cylinders are sold and
that no patient can access oxygen without payment. We urge the
Prime Minister to treat Mwesigwa’s revelations as valuable tips for government action rather than as grounds for intimidation” he noted
