Fans voice discontent as uncertainty clouds Namboole double-header

Uganda Premier League fans have voiced their discontent as uncertainty hangs over Saturday’s much-anticipated double-header at Namboole Stadium.
The day’s program has Kitara facing Vipers at 5pm before KCCA clash with SC Villa under the floodlights at 8pm, fixtures that headline matchday two.
This season is being played under a contentious new format introduced by FUFA, which features three rounds, revenue sharing and double-headers among others.
FUFA argues the changes are designed to fight match-fixing and enhance competitiveness, but the reforms have been met with strong resistance from some clubs and supporters.
SC Villa, Vipers and NEC FC publicly opposed the new structure, with their opening fixtures postponed as Vipers and NEC were engaged in continental football.
Ahead of matchday two, the sides are yet to confirm if they will take part, leaving fans and stakeholders in suspense, by press time.
FUFA launched the double-header initiative last weekend, unveiling an online ticketing portal. However, the announcement sparked negative reactions from fans, many of whom took to social media to voice frustration over scheduling, pricing and the overall format.
Among the comments were:
- “Do @SCVillaJogoo and Vipers know about this?”
- “Who is going to watch these games and why do you put games this late, what happened to 7pm?”
- “We are not coming… Play your format.”
- “20k for the contentious league format, Munywa biki.”
- “These games should be boycotted. @UPL you are burning your money in a useless tournament not a league forced on us by @OfficialFUFA.”
- “Not even early bird will get us excited
.”
