Cape Verde Beat Cameroon To Close In on World Cup

- Eswatini – 2
Cape Verde moved a step closer to a historic first World Cup appearance as they defeated Cameroon 1–0 in Praia, handing Marc Brys’ side their first defeat under the Belgian coach.
In heavy rain, the Blue Sharks settled quickly. Early chances came through Dailon Livramento, who forced a smart save from André Onana, and Jovane Cabral, who went down under pressure from Boyomo in what looked like a penalty appeal.
Cameroon grew into the game and came closest to breaking the deadlock just before half-time, when André-Frank Zambo Anguissa’s header was superbly tipped away by Vozinha.
The breakthrough arrived shortly after the restart. Livramento powered through half the pitch before rifling a low, precise finish past Onana to send the home crowd into jubilation.
The Indomitable Lions responded, with Carlos Baleba twice testing the Cape Verde defence and Onana joining the attack for the final set-piece.
However, the hosts remained well-organised and dangerous on the counter, with Jamiro Monteiro and Willy Semedo missing chances to seal the game.
The victory puts Cape Verde four points clear at the top of their group with two games remaining, while Cameroon must now focus on securing second place, as Libya remain in contention.
