Alex Mukulu: Alien Skin and Fik Gaza are poets, not real musicians

Veteran dramatist and critic Alex Mukulu has taken a swipe at Alien Skin, dismissing him as a “poet” rather than a true musician.
While speaking to Spark TV, Mukulu argued that Ugandans need to learn how to differentiate between poets and actual musicians.
He said that a real musician cannot form gangs to attack others, a behavior he says has become common among today’s entertainers.
They aren’t musicians, they are thugs actually. Where did they come from? You probably weren’t there at the time but have you ever heard that Lutaaya is fighting with Masagazi or Kawalya? Or that Kawalya is fighting with Elly Wamala? All they did was to sing music.
According to him, the golden generation of musicians competed only through their craft and never resorted to physical altercations.
He contrasted that with the new wave of artists like Alien Skin and Fik Gaza, whom he accused of lowering the standards of the industry.
Alien Skin, Fik Gaza… aren’t singers. You can even see from their names. Why can’t they use their actual names? Those boys are poets.
