Ziza Bafana Criticizes Ekyepukulu Concert, Questions Value of Artists’ Performances

Dancehall singer Ziza Bfana has expressed his disappointment towards artists who performed at the recently concluded ‘Ekyepukulu ProMax’ concert at Kololo Airstrip.
Organized by renowned events promoter Abitex, the concert featured a lineup of over 40 artists and comedians who came through to entertain the vast crowds that flocked to the venue.
What disturbed Ziza Bafana the most was that the entrance fee, which he said was disappointingly low and not worth the sweat of any top artists.
In a series of videos, Ziza Bafana dissed the event organizer from the title of the concert, saying it depicted madness, and everyone who performed at it was not in their right senses. In his interview with Spark TV, he noted that he had the right to speak about it because it was degrading the artists.
Artists like Alien Skin, Jose Chameleone, Gravity Omutujju, Ava Peace, Karole Kasita, Geosteady, among others, were among the big lineup. Bafana revealed that, in their caliber and achievements, they had no business performing at a show that had revelers pay pennies as entrance fees.

“We keep saying music has lost value. You cannot say they are charging Ugx 5,000 for a show. In the end, it is the promoter who is gaining from this, but is he related to you, or has he ever paid for your studio sessions or sponsored your video shoot? This revealed greed and poverty, and it was adopted by artists who lacked direction or focus. You have a line of over 40 big stars who have top hit songs in the country. During my time, if you had a hit song, you were special. I cannot imagine top artists performing at shows as cheap as 5K and doing it with all their energy,” he said.
Bafana gave an example of artists like the late Paul Kafeero, Basudde, Philly Bongole Lutaaya, and Maddox, who he said treasured their art and were not seen hopping from stage to stage. This, he said, protected their legacy, and their music still lives on.
Ziza Bafana revealed that he has already transitioned to his dream industry and doesn’t mind allegations that he is faded. He said he is busy respecting himself, building his career, and his legacy. He vowed to keep turning down concerts that do not pay him enough.
