Lugazi fight back to overcome newcomers Calvary

Lugazi FC had to come from a goal down to defeat newly promoted Calvary FC on the first day of the 2025/26 StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
The Leaders needed to overcome an early scare when the visitors took a lead through Simon Peter Odeke just after eleven minutes.
The fight back however saw Lugazi eventually win 3-1 thanks to goals from Paul Wasswa, Sharif Saaka and Ashiraf Mulindi.
In front of their home fans at the Lugazi FC Stadium in Najjembe, the Leaders went a goal down in the 11th minute with Odeke firing Calvary into the lead.
Wasswa was however able to restore parity eight minutes later before Saaka finished from close range in the 29th minute.
Substitute Mulindi who was making his debut, scored the third goal for Lugazi in the 79th minute to put the icing on the break.
The two teams will return to action next week with Lugazi visiting Entebbe UPPC while Calvary will be away to fellow newcomers Buhimba Saints FC.
