John Wesley Kisakye was the hero for visiting Buhimba United Saints over fellow Uganda Premier League debutants Entebbe UPPC at the lake side Fisheries Training Institute playground in Bugonga.

The vastly experienced forward was in the right position to pounce home past goalkeeper goalkeeper Rogers Omedwa on the quarter hour mark before a handful of fans.

The home side dominated the lion’s share of the ball possession with former KCCA captain Julius Poloto, Hassan Ssenyonjo and Issa Bugembe dictating play in the middle of the pack.

Steven Munguchi, another former KCCA player had a shot deflected for a corner kick in the 20th minute before an early change for Entebbe UPPC when crowd darling Samuel Junior Kawawa replaced Muhammed Kyeyune on the half hour mark.

Buhimba United Saints’ Edson Agondeze was booked in the 35th minute for a foul on Kawawa before Munguchi shot over from 20 yards as the visitors maintained the slim lead by the half time break.

Entebbe UPPC maintained the team on mission with several raids to the opposition goal.

Poloto headed over on 52 minutes from close range and moments later, Noordin Bunjo had an overhead kick well picked up by goalkeeper Jamil Kiyimba.

With less than 25 minutes to play; Kigozi and Ssenyonjo were rested for John Kokas Alou and Fazil Tumwine respectively.

In the 76th minute, Bunjo set up Kawawa whose shot was driven directly to Kiyimba.

Poloto headed out from close range off Jonathan Odongo’s cross on the right before Kawawa looked on in disbelief when his overhead kick missed target by inches towards the 90th minute mark.

In the other contests played on the day, Lugazi smiled past league newcomers Calvary 3-1 with three other games ending in stalemates.

Kitara and KCCA played to a 1-all draw at the Butema Royal Park in Hoima whilst Police and Mbarara shared the spoils in another 1-1 all square affair in Kampala.

In Njeru, at the FUFA Technical Center, BUL and Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) did not find the back of the net after 90 minutes.

Express played UPDF in the late kick off at Hamz stadium on Friday under floodlights.
