John Blaq Shares His Challenges as a Musician, Nearly Succumbing to Substance Use Over Industry Pressure

Renowned local singer John Blaq, real John Kasadha, has looked back at the moment he nearly used intoxicating substances.
Drug addiction has become a common problem amongst musicians, with many opting for it to reduce stress and handle the pressure that comes with industry demands. As an upcoming artist, John Blaq revealed that he was very close to using drugs to boost his confidence on stage.
John Blaq, during his YouTube interview, explained that when he started doing music, he faced challenges every time he stepped on stages where people didn’t know him. Because he didn’t have a hit song yet, revellers were not familiar with his music and kept giving him a cold reception.
Out of fear, he thought drugs would give him the confidence that he needed to perform in front of large crowds and almost used them to hide his shyness.
The only time I was about to use drugs was when I had just started doing music. This was before I got the confidence to stand in front of people or even master stage performance. You get to the stage, and people are just there looking at you. Some do not even know you or your songs because you are an upcoming artist. They do not understand you. With this, I thought about using drugs as a confidence booster,” he said.
John Blaq, however, changed his mind when he saw the terrible side effects of drugs like Ice, marijuana, and other ecstasies had on their consumers. This threw him off, and he instead concentrated on working on his stage presence as the only booster.

“But every time I looked at the people using drugs, there was something funny happening to them; if they are not running mad, they are falling off stages and fighting, and this is not what I wanted to become. They are not always in their right senses. God helped me to overcome it; I mastered the art of it and realized I could live without it.
I do not need to use any substances; I step on stage and immediately start my performances,” he said.
