Guinea triumphs over Somalia in Kampala | 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers (Group G):

  • Somalia 0-3 Guinea

Guinea ascended to third place in Group G of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Somalia at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.

Guirassy Serhou Yadaly, Faysal Abubakar Osman Omar (own goal) and Ousmane Camara found the goals for Guinea.

Dortmund forward Guirassy found the opener for the West Africans in the 21st minute as Guinea dominated their opening half hour of action.

The big center forward would have easily made it two had he not blasted over from close range after being set up by Balde Aliou Badara in the 38th minute.

Upon restart of the second half, Guinea remained composed and created the more chances at the opposition.

On the hour mark, Badara and Cisse Seydouba were rested for Soumah Salifou and Ousamane respectively.

Guirassy erred defender Omar to score past his own goalkeeper Mohamud Jama Abdirahman for Guinea’s second goal in the 63rd minute.

Four minutes later, Somalia reacted with a change; resting Ali Mohamed Mohamud for Adan Iman Aweys in the 67th minute.

With a quarter of an hour to play, Somalia called for a double change; introducing Abdulkadir Ahmed Nur and Mohamed Ahmed Farhan for Mohamed Bwana Handwalla and Adem Musse Ali respectively.

Five minutes later, Guinea also made a double substitution.

Defender Diakhaby Mouctar was cautioned for foul in the 83rd minute.

Guirassy paved way for Bachir Aboubacar Bangoura with five minutes to play.

Somalia had an opportunity to pull back a goal but Yasir Abdiqadir Saad missed from close range before he was replaced by Ahmed Mohamed Osman in the 88th minute.

Guinea had the last laugh in the third minute of added minute when Alhassane Bangoura laid the ball for an unmarked Camara with the simplest of tap-ins for Guinea’s third goal.

This is Guinea’s third win in 7 matches, taking them to 10 points and third in the group.

Somalia consequently suffered a heart-breaking 6th defeat in 7 outings as the horn of Africa nation is yet to secure any victory.
