"Museveni Is Still Fit To Lead, He Deserves Your Vote, I Kindly Ask It" Rebecca Kadaga Appeals to the People of Busoga

First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has called on the people of Busoga to throw their weight behind President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the upcoming 2026 general elections. Kadaga, who is also one of the most influential leaders from Busoga, said unity under the NRM is the only way to secure victory and continue development in the region.
Speaking shortly after President Museveni’s nomination by the Electoral Commission, Kadaga reminded Busoga of the achievements made under the ruling party. She noted that there are many ongoing projects in the region that can only be completed if NRM retains power.
“Today is not just about individuals but about the party. As NRM, we walk in unity and together we will deliver victory. I call upon the people of Busoga to rally behind the NRM in the upcoming elections,” Kadaga said.
She urged residents to put aside political divisions and focus on what she called the bigger picture — supporting the party ticket to ensure continued investment and accountability. According to Kadaga, a united front will guarantee Busoga its rightful share of national development.
Kadaga’s endorsement of Museveni is significant because of her strong influence in the region. For years, she has been a central figure in Busoga politics, mobilizing support for the NRM even during times when opposition parties gained momentum.
However, her political journey with Museveni has not always been smooth. There have been visible tensions between the two leaders, especially during internal party elections and in struggles for top NRM positions. Despite these disagreements, Kadaga has remained loyal to the party.
In the past, she accused some Busoga leaders of betraying her ambitions and plotting against her within the NRM. She also openly criticized corruption and favoritism in the party, saying such practices undermined both unity and service delivery.
These disagreements created deep rifts in Busoga politics, where leaders often competed fiercely for both regional loyalty and national recognition. Even so, Kadaga has consistently chosen to stay within the party and push for its agenda in her home region.
Her latest call to support Museveni is seen as an attempt to consolidate NRM’s support in Busoga, a region that analysts say has recently shifted toward the opposition National Unity Platform. Busoga has been described by some as NUP’s stronghold in Eastern Uganda.
With Kadaga’s appeal, political observers believe the ruling party could regain significant ground in the region. Whether her influence will be enough to turn Busoga back into an NRM stronghold remains to be seen, but her voice carries weight and could shape the outcome of the 2026 elections.
