City Oilers Edge Sommet to Reach NBL Finals

City Oilers 79-70 Sommet
(Oilers win series 3-2)

City Oilers booked their spot in the 2025 National Basketball League finals after outlasting Sommet 79–70 in a decisive Game Five on Friday night at YMCA Wandegeya.

With the best-of-five semifinal series tied at 2-2, the clash was a do-or-die affair, and the Oilers wasted no time in asserting control.

They raced to a 31-18 lead in the opening quarter and managed the game well thereafter, keeping Sommet at bay.

After a quiet postseason, Moses Maker stepped up in a big way, powering the Oilers with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Kurt-Curry backed him up with 20 points, while Chad Bowie contributed 19 to seal the win.

For Sommet, Peter Cheng scored 14 points and Nyembo Fataki added 13, but their efforts could not prevent elimination.

Despite winning the rebounding battle 58-55, Sommet’s poor shooting—hitting just 7-of-35 from beyond the arc—proved costly.

The result ended what had been a remarkable debut season for Sommet, who were playing in the topflight for the first time after taking over Our Saviour Basketball Club spot in top flight.

City Oilers will now face Nam Blazers in the finals, a much-anticipated showdown as the 10-time champions chase an eleventh consecutive league crown.
