Uganda Woodball team optimistic prior to 2025 Beach Woodball World Cup, 1st Thailand Open International

Uganda is sending a solid delegation of woodball players who will feature in the fourth edition of the beach woodball world cup and the first Thailand open international beach woodball championship.

For starters, the fourth world cup beach woodball championship will take place in Rayong, Thaiand at the Laem Charoen beach between September 7th to 13th 2025.

Concurrently, the Thailand open international beach woodball championship will be held from the 9th to 13th 2025.

Vastly experienced players Thomas Khedi and Christine Birungi are the respective men and female team captains for Uganda.

Khedi leads the men charges who also include Gilles Amanyire, Akram Matovu and George Guma.

Birungi’s female team has Rhonah Namutebi, Anita Nakyazze and Jackline Naula.

The head coach Onesimus Atamba is positive about a brave outing in Thailand.

“We have a mixed team of both young and experienced players, but I’m impressed with their response to training. Hitting 32 strokes is good enough to give me confidence,” Atamba remarked.

The team has been camped in Bunjako Beach in Mpigi district and depart the country this Saturday for Thailand.

Uganda will field players in the fairway team event, Stroke team event and Stroke singles but will not compete in the doubles.

Team captain Khedi is equaled fired up for the task in thy midst, optimally utilizing the experience from the previous international competitions.

“I have competed at the world stage many times and even Amanyire. So, we are ready and we shall be in position to support our colleagues who are appearing for the first. But the focus is winning medals for Uganda,” Khedi hinted.

Uganda had a successful outing at the 2023 Beach Woodball World Cup in Malaysia winning four medals.

In 2019 they won a silver medal but withdrew from the 2024 edition citing financial challenges.
