Iryn Namubiru shares tips on creating a supportive environment for children

Iryn Namubiru has shared advice on parenting, urging parents to create an environment where children feel heard and understood.

Speaking during an interview on Spark TV, Namubiru noted the importance of listening to children rather than maintaining a strict and unapproachable attitude.

I’m not perfect, but as a parent, I’ve learned that listening to your child is essential. Our culture makes parents seem tough and unapproachable, but what our children need is for us to be their friends and to create space for open conversations.

She added that simple gestures, such as parents initiating greetings, can go a long way in making children feel respected and valued.

Irene Namubiru opens up about setting healthy boundaries for personal growth

It is not mandatory that the child has to greet you first when you enter their room. Why not say hello to them first sometimes too? It doesn’t make you less of a parent.

Reflecting on her own upbringing, Namubiru noted that many children of her generation grew up in homes where open dialogue with parents was nearly impossible.

We couldn’t interact with our parents normally, and most of the time, we were criticised for not doing things the way they wanted.
