Phiona Nyamutoro: Copyright law is for all Ugandan creatives, not just musicians

State Minister for Minerals, Phiona Nyamutoro, has emphasised that the proposed copyright law amendment currently before Parliament is not designed to benefit only musicians, but all creatives across Uganda.
Nyamutoro, who is championing the amendment alongside other legislators such as Dr. Hilderman, noted that the law will safeguard the intellectual property of artists in various sectors, ensuring fair recognition and compensation for their work.
The copyright law is not going to benefit only musicians, it is going to benefit all creatives in Uganda.
I think that’s a great push for Uganda because we shall be looking at safeguarding the creative works, we shall be looking at enhancing competition, we shall be looking at also improving the quality of our works so that they can match up to international standards and all.
The bill is currently under committee review, awaiting its second and third readings in Parliament, where it is widely expected to pass.
