The XXXIII Olympiad in France will officially be opened on Friday, 26th July 2024 along the famous River Seine in Paris city.

There is a lot of excitement coming to this D-Day of the world’s largest multi-sport event where over 10,700 athletes will take part.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) member William Blick has hailed the French president Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron.

Blick, a former president of Uganda Olympic Committee hailed the legendary leader for the warm reception accorded to all participants.

“Thank you Emmanuel Macron for welcoming the whole world to the Paris Olympics.” He posted on his official X account.

“As the International Olympic Committee, we embark on unifying the world through sport, we thank you for loving Africa by giving our athletes the opportunity to train in France as they prepare for the Olympic Games” he added.

Football (men) and Rugby 7’s kicked off on 24th Wednesday 2024 with handball and archery following suit on the next day.

At this year’s Olympic Games, Uganda is represented in Swimming, Rowing, Cycling and Athletics.

The official opening ceremony is on Friday, 26th July 2024. Uganda’s flag bearers at the opening ceremony will be Charles Kagimu (cyclist) and swimmer Gloria Muzito.

At the closing ceremony, Uganda’s team captain Joshua Cheptegei and rower Grace Kathleen Noble will carry the treasured Black-Yellow-Red decorated Uganda’s flag.
