Grace Kasango has won the professional category of the 2024 UGC Ladies Open championship at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club, Kitante – Kampala.

The towering professional golfer scored an identical 3-under 69 over two rounds for a combined total gross of 138 (-6).

Kasango was two shots better than the day one leader Adolf Muhumuza and Tadeo Rodell Gaita who tied on 140 gross apiece (-4).

Muhumuza had led the field during the opening with a magical 6-under 66 on Tuesday before a dismissal 4-over 74 on day two.

Phillip Kasozi scored 70 and 71 (141) for fourth position and legendary Deo Akope returned 72, 71 (143) to complete the top five positions.

Fred Wanzala was sixth on the leaderboard with 73 and 71 (144) as two golfers Flavia Namakula and Marvin Kibirige tied for 7th on 145 apiece.

The two final top ten positions and the cut were taken up by Herman Mutawe and Herman Deco Mutebi (147 each).

Missed the cut:

Some of the players who missed the cut were Joseph Mawejje (148), Abraham Ainamani (148), Boniface Simwa (149), Bulhan Matovu (150), Gerald Kabuye (150), Irene Nakalembe (151), Davis Kato (152) and Hussein Bagalana (152), among others.

In total, 37 professionals featured in the 36-hole competition.

The total kitty for the entire crop is Ug.Shs 10,000,000.

David Kamulindwa was disqualified after a modest 1-under-71 score on round one.

The professionals’ tournament will be followed by the gross cluster for both men and women before the main championship on Saturday, 17th August 2024.
