Uganda Crested Cranes defender Shadia Nankya recently concluded a move to Egyptian champions Tutankhamun Football Club from Uganda Christian University (UCU) Football Club in Uganda.

In a seat down interview with Kawowo Sports, Nankya narrated her football journey, the inspiration to play the beautiful game, challenges of balancing school with education, appreciation as well as the advice to the future generation.

She boldly confesses that the success ladder to a successful football career is precipitated by a conveyor belt that has strong pillars of patience, persistence and resistance.

Nankya reveals her future plans of upgrading to MBA status; in a bid of securing her future with a plan-B with successful education.

Last year, Nankya recovered from a long injury lay-off and since then, she has not looked back.

Question: What is your football journey been like?

Nankya: I have not had a long one. I started with Uganda Martyrs and was there for some seasons before I moved to UCU. At UCU, I have been there for some time. Now, this is my next step

Question: How did you manage to balance education and football?

Nankya: The institutions that I have to are in the system of education; and not only football. The time we have our training sessions do not enter into classes.

They have been creating the best time for us to play football, dedicating a lot of hours into our class-work.

Question: Who is your inspiration?

Nankya: About my source of inspiration. First, It was the sport itself. Then my brother accompanied by family. Seeing me grow and achieve in the sport inspired me more.

Question: How did you come to this decision to join Tutankhamun Football Club?

Nankya: It was a well thought though decision with both me as player and my management team at Sepuya Inc Agency.

As their goal is both sporting but also life after football mainly education. So, while here, I will be able to play professional football and also further for my studies for MBA.

The chance also to work with “Right to Dream” project is a blessing. After a couple of offers in different teams, my heart chose Tutankhamun Football Club.

Question: What advice do you give to the young stars coming through?

Nankya: You must have patience, persistence and resistance. No matter how long it takes, go for your dream, don’t set limits because God’s timing is the best.

Question: How has UCU Ladies Cardinal shaped to professional career?

Nankya: Through the good and bad, UCU still believed in me and gave me another chance to try again the next day. I can’t say it all but whenever you are surrounded by people who believe in what you can do, people who see potential in you is the best motivating thing that can push you running for ages and this is what UCU gave me every day.  Also, FUFA has been fundamental in my development through all national team set ups and my coming back to the game of football that love much, appreciation to them from top; the president, coaching staff, and administrators.

Nankya: I send them to my family, with my dad, mentor Samuel Lukaire, the technical staff, team-mates and the community of UCU not forgetting my fans, I owe you.
