It is now a two-man race by the close of business for the Second Round at the 2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Amateur Golf Open in Lugazi.
Overnight leader Dominic Musonda from Nkana Golf Club in Zambia remains top after 36 holes, but Uganda’s Joseph Cwinya-ai is just a single stroke short as the duo tee off for Round Three.
Cwinya-ai’s 3-under-68 on the day was the best overall score during Round Two to close down on Musonda, who played 2-under-69.
“I am glad to have closed the gap to one shot. I feel my putting has to further improve. Otherwise, I would have made it 65,” Cwinya-ai remarked.
Musonda expects to hold onto the pressure, having faced similar situations in his golfing career.
“It is good that I still lead. I am ready to face the big boys. I have been in these situations before and let’s see the final two rounds,” the Nkana Golf Club member stated.
Musonda, Cwinya-ai and Kakeeto will tee off at midday in Round Three’s main pressure group.
Elton Thembo (143), Ibrahim Ssemakula (143) and Peter Tumusiime (145) will also play in the second group which tees off at 11:50 am.
Derrick Musana (146), Peter Mayende (146) and Anthony Otukei (146) will drive off at 11:40 am.
Rogers Eyoyo (147), Godfrey Kambale (148) and Titus Okwong (148) commence round three at 11:30 am.
Lawrence Walakira (148), former champion Andrew Ssekibejja (149) and Charles Lwanga Mulyanga (150) tee off at 11:20 am.
Uganda Breweries Limited, under the Johnnie Walker brand, leads the cast of sponsors.
