Ashraf Mandela returns to Vipers for third stint

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have confirmed the return of right-back Ashraf Mandela on a three-year contract.

Mandela rejoins the Venoms after a stint with Rwanda Premier League side Police FC and was officially unveiled on Wednesday evening.

“Vipers Sports Club are delighted to confirm the return of experienced right-back Ashraf Mandela, who has penned a three-year contract with the Venoms,” the club announced via its socials.

This marks Mandela’s third spell at the Kitende-based side. His first came between 2015 and 2018 when he was promoted from St. Mary’s Kitende to the senior team before moving on to SC Villa and later URA FC.

He returned for a second stint between 2022 and 2024, playing a key role in helping Vipers win two Uganda Premier League titles, qualify for the CAF Champions League group stages, and lift the Uganda Cup.

Mandela’s return adds to Vipers’ growing list of new arrivals, including Robin Kane Hney, Mark Yallah, Taddeo Lwanga, Odili Chukwuma, Kevin Dasylva Bady, and Enock Ssebagala.

The 28-year-old will now compete for a starting place with Nicholas Wadada and Grant Matsiko, in what is seen as a major boost to the squad ahead of a busy season that also includes continental engagements.
