2025 Hexaster Cup Tournament: Preparations in high gear | Masindi

The third edition of the annual Hexaster cup tournament in Buruli county, Masindi district is set to take center stage at the close of the year.
The organizing team is making every possible step to have a tranquil championship that will be held between October and December 2025.
Yassin Hut Varlow Aliganyira, the founder of the Hexaster Cup Tournament, boldly attests that this is a fast-growing grassroots football competition.
Since its launch in 2023, the Hexaster Cup has quickly become more than just a football tournament—it is now a community platform for talent development, unity, hope and youth empowerment. Preparations are underway to expand participation, improve logistics, and attract more sponsorship. As a long-term plan in the pipeline, the Exaster Cup will be envisaged as a regional football powerhouse, producing players for Uganda’s top leagues and the national team.

The event attracts large crowds, creates opportunities for local players, and boosts small businesses within the county.
Background & History
The inaugural edition was held in 2023 with 16 teams across Buruli, uniting communities around organized football.
Alimugonza Football Club was the first winner and Kijunjubwa as the reigning champion.
In 2024 came the second edition which kicked off on 9th October 2024 with wider recognition.
The tournament referees were appointed through the Masindi District Football Association (MDFA).
Hon. David Kyetume, aspiring District Chairperson, sponsored jerseys for the finalists.
Purpose & Vision
The Hexaster Cup Tournament is to help develop and showcase young football talent, promote unity and social cohesion, provide youth with constructive engagement to curb social vices as well as boost local economic activity during tournament events.
Community Impact:
Over the years, the tournament has had adverse effect on the local communities by attracting thousands of fans, benefiting vendors, transporters, and small businesses.
The youth have garnered exposure, discipline, and opportunities for advancement in football careers.
Along the same wavelength, the civic and political leaders have found it a valuable platform to positively engage with communities.
