Round 3: Golfers eye improved performances | 2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Amateurs Golf Open

84th Johnnie Walker Uganda Amateurs Golf Open
Round 3: Friday, 5th September 2025
Venue: Lugazi Hills and Country Club
It is the third round at the 84th edition of the Johnnie Walker Uganda Amateurs Golf Open Championship in Lugazi on Friday, 5th September 2025.
The undulating hills, swift valleys, well maintained fairways and super quality greens await the golfers at the picturesque Lugazi Hills and Country Club course as they make it 54 holes.
There are varying ambitions for all the elite (gross) players in action but ultimately one is common; to be crowned champion by close of business on Saturday.
Following the grueling opening two rounds, now the golfers have been pooled into groups according to the current standings on the leaderboard.
The earliest tee off for round three on Friday will be at 8:10 AM with the duo of Wycklyf Marxman and Joseph Archie.
8:20 AM will have Joseph Bagabo and Dr Edward Nyatia driving off.
The main pressure group that has the current overall leader Dominic Musonda, Joseph Cwinya-ai and Abdul Kakeeto will tee off at mid-day.
They will be following the likes of Elton Thembo, Ibrahim Ssemakula and Peter Tumusiime who drive off at 11:50 am.
The trio of Derrick Musana, Peter Mayende and Anthony Otukei take off at 11:40 am.
“We are now man-to-man in the same group” remarked Cwinya-ai who is trailing by a single stroke off the leader Musonda.
Cwinya-ai played 3-under-68 during round two compared to Musonda’s 2-under-69 on the day.
Musonda maintains, he is not under any sort of pressure having been in a similar situation for many years.
“I have played many pressure groups, I will still play my game” the Nkana Golf Club member asserted.
Whereas the top seeds eye the coveted prize at stake, each of the players in action is eyeing a respectable finishing position since this championship is part of the world amateur golf ranking system.
Round three will witness the golfers make it 54 holes in total ahead of the grand finale on Saturday where another 18 holes will accumulate to 72 holes in four rounds.
Johnnie Walker, a product of Uganda Breweries Limited is the headline sponsor with other partners including MTN Uganda, absa bank, Mehta Group of companies, among others.
