UCU Canons smartly went past the KCCA Panthers in the quarterfinals of the Castle Lite National Basketball League playoffs.

UCU Canons secured a well-deserved 80-60 victory against KCCA Panthers in game one of the best-of-three series on Friday night at Lugogo Arena.

The commanding victory puts Nicholas Natuhereza’s troops in a good place to advance to the semifinals since another victory of a kind will mean the quarterfinals’ business will be put to an end.

UCU Canons started strong, creating a 16-point lead (26-10) at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the game got very physical, but UCU Canons extended their lead to 21 points (43-22) going into the long break.

Coming from the locker rooms, KCCA Panthers stepped up edging the Canons (21-18) but still trailed by 18 points at the end of the third quarter.

Nobert Okidi’s long shot from downtown climaxed the encounter as the UCU Canons sealed the 20-point victory.

Peter Sifuma was outstanding for the Canons, registering a double-double scoring 28 points and pulling down 17 rebounds.

Ibanda Lwabaga scored a game-high of 28 points, and Ekirapa Zachariah added 13 points.

Only Davis Assimwe (13) and Stephen Otoa (12) scored in double digits for the KCCA Panthers.

The two sides were supposed to play Game Two on Sunday, July 14, but the encounter (and other games meant for Sunday) was postponed, and the new date is yet to be named.

The development was made to allow the National Women’s Basketball, the Gazeles, to prepare to travel to Germany for the high-performance training camp.
