Heat 2:

  • Winner: Jakob Ingebrigtsen (Norway) – 13:51:59
  • 2nd: Biniam Mehary (Ethiopia) – 13:51:82
  • 3rd: Isaac Kimeli (Belgium) – 13:52:18
  • 4th: Grant Fisher (USA) – 13:52:44
  • 5th: Oscar Chelimo (Uganda) – 13:52:46

Heat 1:

  • Winner: Narve Gilje Nordas (Norway) – 14:08.16
  • 2nd: Hagos Gebrhiwet (Ethiopia) – 14:08:18
  • 3rd: John Heymans (Belgium) – 14:08:33

The men’s 5000m heats at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games were held on the morning of Wednesday, 7th August at Stade De France.

Uganda’s lone ranger in the race Oscar Chelimo qualified to the finals due on Friday.

Chelimo posted a time of 13:52:46 during the heat won by Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen (13:51:59).

Ethiopian Biniam Mehary (13:51:82) came second ahead of Belgium’s Isaac Kimeli (13:52:18).

United States of America’s long-distance runner Grant Fisher ran 13:52:44 to qualify for the finals on Saturday, 10th August 2024.

Meanwhile, the first heat was slower than the second one. Narve Gilje Nordas from Norway won the first heat with a time of 14:08.16.

Hagos Gebrhiwet (Ethiopia) came second with 14:08:18 and John Heymans (Belgium) crossed the finishing line third with a time of 14:08:33.

Chelimo was supposed to have run with two other Ugandans Joshua Cheptegei and his biological brother Jacob Kiplimo who pulled out at the 11th hour citing fatigued bodies.

Uganda has so far won two medals at the games; a gold medal for Joshua Chepetegi in the 10,000m men’s race and a silver by Peruth Chemutai in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase race.
