As Tanzania marks 25 years since the passing of Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, Vodacom Tanzania and the Twende Butiama Bicycle Club are excited to announce the opening of registrations for the 2024 Twende Butiama Cycling Tour.

The tour, which will run from September 28 to October 14, celebrates the legacy of Tanzania’s founding father through a unique blend of cycling, community engagement, and philanthropy.

The Twende Butiama Cycling Tour, established in 2019 by a passionate community of cyclists, honors Mwalimu Nyerere’s love for cycling and his vision for progress in three key areas, education, healthcare, and environmental conservation, that would empower Tanzanians socially and economically.

“We are thrilled to open registrations for the 2024 Vodacom Twende Butiama Cycling Tour. This year’s event not only celebrates our founding father’s legacy but also aims to create a lasting positive impact. Participants will engage in climate action campaigns, improve learning environments, and support inclusive healthcare through community medical camps. We invite cyclists of all levels, both local and international, to join this 14-day endurance event covering over 1500 kilometers across 12 regions,” said Gabriel Landa, Founder of the Twende Butiama Cycling initiative.

Vodacom Tanzania, the main sponsor for the second consecutive year, expressed their commitment to the tour’s mission.

In 2024, over 6000 trees were planted

Last year’s partnership with Twende Butiama led to the planting of over 6,000 trees, provided medical care to more than 3,200 people in three districts in Mwanza and Mara regions, and donated 610 desks to 13 primary schools.

These efforts are in line with Vodacom’s purpose of empowering people and protecting the planet.

610 desks were donated to 13 primary schools.

“This year, we are proud to continue our support for this noble cause. The 2024 tour will expand its reach, offering digital skills training and medical camps, including non-communicable disease screening and awareness, across 12 regions. We encourage both short and long-distance cyclists to register and join us in making a difference, as well as partners invested in supporting the mission.” said Zuweina Farah, Director of External Affairs and the Vodacom Tanzania Foundation.
