  • City Oilers 79-70 Sommet

The reigning champions, City Oilers, have qualified for their 11th consecutive National Basketball League playoffs final, having won the previous 10 in a row.

City Oilers secured a well-deserved 79-70 victory against Sommet Basketball Club in the NBL Playoffs encounter at YMCA Court, Wandegeya on Friday.

The Oilers came out of the blocks early shocking Sommet before Kurt Wegscheider’s layup concluded the opening period, giving the Oilers a 13-point lead (31-18).

Fataki Nyembo’s successful trip to the free-throw line concluded the second quarter, as Sommet reduced the deficit to seven points (45-38) before the break.

Coming out of the long break, Sommet narrowed the lead to three points (53-50) with seven minutes left in the third quarter, but they ran out of steam before Mer Maker’s layup extended the City Oilers’ lead to 12 points (71-59) at the end of the period.

The crowd fell into a cold mood as the game went five minutes without either side converting, instead making very avoidable turnovers. At the end of the day, City Oilers ran away with a nine-point victory.

Mer Maker (23 points), Kurt Wegscheider (20 points) and Chad Bowie (19 points) led the Oilers in the double digits.

On the other hand, Peter Cheng (14 points), Nyembo Fataki (13 points) and Mark Ngobi (12 points) scored for Sommet.
