Mangat easily sails to Jinja Rally win

Jas Mangat and Enoch Olinga were in their own league as they faced no challenge enroute to victory in the weekend EMC Jinja Rally.

Mangat, in the Hyundai i20, comfortably took lead of the EMC Moil Rally from the start to the end of the rally on Sunday. 

The PiliPili crew spiced up the super race claiming full points in the power stage to edge closer to the fourth NRC title.

“The event went really well. Nice stages, fast and a bit technical as well. We really enjoyed,” said Mangat.

“We are trying new technics in driving and we feel a very good improvement and that was the main purpose to get better,” he added. 

The victory extended Mangat’s lead. He currently seats top of the leaderboard with 200 points with three events left on the national championship.

“At the moment we are committed to the championship. Due to a tight schedule, we will not do the next ARC in Zambia, so we shall be around for the next NRC in Fort Portal, we need mileage,” he said. 

Moustapha Mukasa continued to impress; working us way onto the podium yet again.

Navigated by Lawrence Mwambazi, Mukasa secured a convincing second position to register his second podium of his rally career. 

The podium puts Mukasa second on the NRC leaderboard with 177points; 23 points behind Mangat. 

Nasser Mutebi completed the podium positions in third overall to keep himself in the top three crews on the leaderboard.

Ronald Sebuguzi rose from his leg one misfortunes  to secure a forth position overall. 

In the two-wheel drive category, Ibrahim Lubega edged his rivals to secure the victory. Julius Semambo finished second followed by Jamada Lwabaga in third. 

In the Clubman Rally Championship, Musa Ssegambwe widen his chances of clinching the title with another victory in the class. Haruna Kataza settled for second with Nasib Ssesanga in third.

The next round of NRC heads to Fort Portal next month.
