KCCA FC rallied from a goal down to earn a point on the road against Kitara in Hoima as the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season kicked off.

KCCA needed Sharif Ssengendo’s late strike to cancel out Emmanuel Alex Wasswa’s early opener and secure a crucial draw.

The hosts made a bright start and went ahead just five minutes in when Wasswa headed home after Patrick Kaddu’s flicked set-up. Jimmy Kalema nearly doubled the lead shortly after, but his effort was well saved by Herbert Achayi.

KCCA grew into the game, with Ivan Ahimbisibwe coming close, only for Benjamin Nyakoojo to produce a crucial block after Sammy Ssebadduka had beaten Isa Lumu.

After the break, the visitors looked sharper in attack but were repeatedly frustrated by Kitara’s resolute defending. Substitutions—Alex Yiga, Emmanuel Anyama, and Steven Oyirwoth—added more firepower for the Kasasiro Boys.

Saidi Mayanja tested goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige with a curling effort, but the shot-stopper stood firm. With 11 minutes left, substitute Sharif Ssengendo struck with his first touch to level matters for KCCA.
