Jinja Club hosts successful NCBA Golf Series Qualifiers

For the first time in its four-year history, the NCBA Golf Series – Uganda Qualifiers – were played outside Kampala and Entebbe.

NCBA Bank, in collaboration with the Jinja Golf Club, took the NCBA Golf Series to Jinja aimed at inspiring greatness in Uganda’s golfing fraternity.

About 120 golfers took the nine-hole course overlooking the River Nile in a bid to be part of the Series Grande Finale that will be played on November 29 at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi, Kenya.

“Today, we celebrate greatness. Our unwavering commitment to supporting golf stems from our belief in greatness, and that belief inspires everything we do. We encourage all participants to continue pursuing greatness as we journey through this exciting Series,” Mark Muyobo, the NCBA Bank CEO, said.

Muyobo was impressed with the turnout for the tournament which has previously only been held in Kampala and Entebbe. He also affirmed that the winners of the qualifiers will get a chance to compete with the region’s best from Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda at the Series Grande Finale.

“This is the first time we are bringing this tournament to Jinja and we have been overwhelmed with the participation. We are quite impressed with the players from Jinja for this turn-up.

“Both the Men and Lady Winners of the NCBA Golf Series [Qualifiers] will be flown down to Nairobi to compete in the Grand Finale in November. This will give them an opportunity to test themselves against competition from the region and further develop their game.”

The bank also seized the opportunity to emphasize its comprehensive sustainability initiative aimed at combating climate change and preserving Uganda’s natural ecosystems by mobilizing golfers to plant trees along the golf course.

Muyobo said that through the “Change the Story” initiative, which is the bank’s flagship sustainability project, NCBA aims to minimize its direct impact on the climate while executing an elaborate tree-planting program. In line with this endeavour, golfers playing in the NCBA Golf Series planted at least 100 trees at the Jinja Golf Course.

“Tree planting is integral to combating climate change and preserving our natural ecosystems. Our tree-growing activities yield tangible and lasting benefits, including carbon sequestration, employee engagement, and community empowerment,” Muyobo said.
