Umar Dauda will rely on the upcoming fundraising sprint to advance his return into the cockpit.

Dubbed the Gwanga Mujje, the fundraising sprints is scheduled for 28 July at Garuga racing track.

Dauda, whose performance has been impressive over the years, with evident top results, has been out of competition for this season due to lack of a car.

He previously cruised a Mitsubishi Evo6. With it, he registered his maiden NRC victory in 2022 during the Fort Portal rally. Another victory would come a year later in the same event while he drove a friend’s car the Evo9.

The Evo9 was eventually put up for sale after Dauda landed an opportunity to secure a Mitsubishi EvoX.

“We have the EvoX. But it is not fit for rally. A lot of things are missing including the the gearbox, ECU. Technically, we only have a shell. And all these need a big budget. That is why we opted for the fundraising,” said Dauda.

A number of rally drivers are supporting  Dauda with confirmation of their participation in the Garuga  sprint.

Although fundraising sprints have proved not successful to the previous crews in raising funds, Dauda remains hopeful.

“It is true, the fundraising has not done so well for drivers previously. But I have hope. All my fellow drivers are up to it. They are calling on their fans to be around, and that enough gives me the hope I need. So, I believe it will be a success,” he added

It is expected that with his undoubted pace, Dauda would be a notch higher in the Evo X.
