FUFA Super 8: Holders BUL edge Maroons to reach semis


BUL FC became the first team to book a slot into the semifinals of the 2025 FUFA Super 8 tournament after overcoming Maroons FC on Tuesday.
The Eastern Giants who are the reigning Champions edged the Prison Warders 3-1 in the second leg at Nakivubo Stadium to progress to the semifinals. It should be noted that the first leg had ended in a barren stalemate.
Left back Thomas Ochungo gave BUL an early lead, heading home from Ibrahim Orit’s corner kick delivery in the 12th minute.
Another defender in Apollo Kagogwe was able to level matters, equalizing for Maroons with his would be cross beating goalkeeper Farouk Yawe, eight minutes into the second half.
However, BUL was able to reclaim their lead, first through Isaac Wagoina who tucked home from the spot in the 70th minute before Jerome Kirya put the icing on the cake five minutes later.
The result means BUL FC will now face the winner between KCCA FC and SC Villa in the semifinals. SC Villa lead 2-1 from the first leg and the two teams will face off this Friday at FUFA Kadiba Stadium.
In the other quarterfinal game played on Tuesday, NEC FC defeated Express FC 2-1 to progress on away goals rule after a 2-2 aggregate score. Express had won the reverse fixture 1-0.
Emmanuel Kulanga and Marvin Kavuma scored a goal each for the Die Hards while Herbert Asiimwe got the consolation for the Red Eagles.
NEC FC will now await the winner between URA FC and Kitara FC to know their semifinal opponent. URA FC won the first leg 2-1.
