Kitara make their continental debut when they take on Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi on Friday evening in Libya in the Caf Confederation Cup first leg preliminary round.

The Royals play their home clash away from home but team captain Maxwell Owachigiu is confident ahead of the clash.

“The team is in good shape. As you are aware, this is going to be our first continental game but with the training we have had in the past two weeks, we are versed with the tactics and will approach the game very well,” said Owachigiu.

“Since we are the away team, we are going to work hard to get good results to take into the second leg,” he added.

Owachigiu believes having some players with some experience on the continent will also give them some boost going into the game.

“We have some experienced players that have played on the continent and as players, we are in good mood under no pressure and Super 8 as well as the international friendly molded us and we shall give everything.”

Brian Aheebwa and Benjamin Nyakoojo have played on the continent with KCCA and URA while Frank Tumwesigye, Marvin Nyanzi and Titus Ssematimba have featured on national under age teams in Caf competitions.

Against Al Hilal Benghazi, the backline of Nyakoojo, Ronald Otti and company must keenly watch compatriot Muhammad Shaban who recently joined the side from KCCA.

Besides the backline, Brian Ssenyondo will hope his forwards led by Denis Omedi and Jude Ssemugabi who have been lethal in the Fufa Super 8 are clinical over the two legs to ensure progress.

In case Kitara overcomes the Libyan side, Al Masry of Egypt awaits in the second preliminary round.
