3rd T20 Match: Match Result

  • Uganda 110/7
  • Tanzania 89/9
  • Uganda won by 21 runs

Uganda’s Baby Victoria Pearls won their third game of the training series against the visiting Tanzania U-19 girls.

Uganda won the toss and elected to bat but their struggles in the power play continued. The hosts could only manage 34 runs in the first 10 overs for the loss of two wickets. A different opening combination of Hope Mbeiza and Patricia Timong was unable to get out of the blocks early as the coaches continued to test different combinations.

The introduction of Asumin Akurut added some impetus to the run-scoring as she picked up where she left off yesterday with bat in hand taking the attack to the visitors but also mixed up with some good running between the wickets. Akurut only managed to get 20 off her blade but her partnership with Malisa Ariokot helped Uganda score an additional 76 runs in the last 10 overs to finish on 110/7 in 20 overs. Rashidah Tikabula was given a run today in the place of Irene Mutoni after missing out yesterday.

In the chase, running between the wickets continued to be a problem for Tanzania. They have lost an opener in the three games via run out. Uganda was able to deal with the top order cheaply until a middle-order resistance made the contest even.

However, the early loss of wickets made it impossible to mount a challenge from the back with the tail running out of resources with at least 21 runs required for the win.

Uganda with a third win of the series as the sides continue to fine-tune their game plans ahead of the U-19 World Cup Qualifiers next month in Rwanda.
