Rwanda’s premier league winners APR are one step away from lifting the 2024 CECAFA Kagame Cup after reaching the final in Dar es Salaam.

The three-time Kagame Cup winners eliminated Sudan’s Al Hilal 5-4 on penalties following a goalless draw after extra time.

In the shootout, Taddeo Lwanga’s APR were clinical converting all their five attempts but Al Hilal, coached by experienced tactician Florent Ibenge missed their 5th kick.

Ex-SC Villa and Vipers skipper Lwanga was an unused substitute for the entire game despite playing all group games including the 1-1 draw with UPL champions SC Villa.

APR will now wait to see who they face between guest Zambian team Red Arrows and Hay Al Wadi of Sudan who face off in the other semi-final.

The regional tournament is sponsored by the Sudan Football Association (SFA), Dar Port through the Tanzania Ports Authority, Azam TV and the Rwanda President Paul Kagame. The champions will pocket US$30,000, the runner-up US$20,000, and the third placed US$10,00
