Ian Amanya is the latest addition to the Uganda Premier League newbies Lugazi Football Club in the ongoing transfer window.

Lugazi has signed the skilful and agile attacking midfielder on a two-year employment contract. He joins the Leaders from Kaaro Karungi.

Amanya’s dream to play in the top flight comes true after impressing in the just concluded FUFA Big League campaign.

“I am thankful to God who has seen me through my football journey. Everyone close to me clearly knows that it’s been a dream for me to the top flight,” Amanya told Kawowo Sports.

“It’s been a learning scale for the years at Kaaro Karungi, and I thank them for taking care of me and grooming me into a better player. In my first season, it all did not go well, but later on, I found my rhythm, and I believe we created a number of memories together,” he added.

Amanya can play as a forward as well as a midfielder. Given his blistering speed and comfort with the ball, he revealed that he prefers to play as an attacking midfielder with a liberty to roam and involve others into play.

“I prefer to play as an attacking midfielder. I believe that I can involve my teammates in play more so following the coach’s instructions. I am very flexible as a player, and this has helped me grow into a team player rather than prioritise individual goals.”

Last season, Amanya scored eight goals, three behind the top scorer. He believes that in modern football, midfielders ought to complement their statistics with assists and goals.

“I am glad that last season I managed to score eight goals for Kaaro Karungi. I want to see my goal tally grow, and that is something I want to add to my game. The primary goal as a midfielder is to set up others and put scoring goals as a spice that makes any attacker complete and useful to the team,” he concluded.

Amanya becomes Lugazi’s sixth signing in the busy transfer window. He has previously played for Spartans Academy, Kazo Excel FC, and KL United Namasuba before joining Kaaro Karungi.
