KIU Titans secured a hard-fought 81-78 victory against Namuwongo Blazers in the National Basketball League on Sunday evening at Lugogo Indoor Arena.

It was a sweet win for the Kasanga-based side as they advanced to the final with a victory in the decider of the semifinal series that was dragged into an over time.

It was a thrilling game of basketball that kept the fans on the edge of their seats as they witnessed an end-to-end encounter in front of a big crowd.

The fight period ended levelled 20-20 as the two teams staged an impressive fight in the first 10 minutes.

The KIU Titans opened a three-point lead (41-38) at the end of the second stanza.

Coming from the locker rooms, the Titans kept the momentum and opened a six-point (57-51) lead at the end of the third quarter.

At the end of the fourth quarter, the game was still tied at 73-73, thus extending the tight encounter to overtime.

The Titans were the more composed side, forcing the Blazers into several turnovers before clinching the sweet victory.

Edgar Munaba had an impressive game registering a double-double with 20 points and 17 rebounds.

In the same spirit, Peter Obleng (22 points), Joel Lokoji (14 points), and Tembo Kasereka (12 points) scored for the Titans in double digits.

Innocent Ochera (19 points), Peter Cheng (18 points), Micheal Makiadi (13 points), and Paul Odong (11 points) led the Blazers’ charge in double digits.

Julius Lutwama’s charges will play the City Oilers in the second consecutive final as they seek to end the latter’s dominance in the league.

The two sides will face off in the best-of-seven final series that will be getting underway on Wednesday, August 28th, 2024.
