Entebbe Club is a good poaching ground for Tanzania female golfers when it comes to the prestigious Uganda Ladies Golf Open.

In 2018, Neema Olomi clinched the title in Entebbe when everyone least expected her.

Six years later, another Tanzanian, Iddy Hussein Madina has made it with the overall title.

Madina, a member of Arusha Gymkhana Club won the 2024 Johnnie Walker Uganda Ladies Golf Open in Entebbe, beating a field of 40 other females in the silver category.

“This is a great feeling” Madina exclaimed after holing out on the par-5 hole 18 with a level score as he closest challengers Hawa Wanyeche and Martha Babirye faded.

After several different attempts to win the Uganda Ladies Open, Madina’s hard work, belief and dedication finally reaped dividends.

“I had always wanted to win the Uganda Ladies Golf Open and It has come. I thank my entire team management, caddie and country-mates” Madina added.

Over the three rounds, Madina scored a combined gross mark of 228 (78, 76 and 74).

The final day happened to be her best round in 54 holes as she improved from 7-over on day one, 5-over on day two to 3-over during the last epic round that witnessed a big gallery.

Day one leader Hawa Wanyeche, also from Tanzania scored a total of 230 (74, 80, 76) with Uganda’s Martha Babirye, a three-time winner of the open coming in joint third position with 232, same as Neema Olimi.

Babirye looked destined for her fourth title in as many years, but the final round of 9-over-80 disappointed her ambitions.

The ladies open was lit up by an ace from Tanzanian female golfer Aalaa Riyaz Somji on par-3 hole 6.

Meanwhile, the ladies bronze category was won by Ghana’s Aileen Contey, a handicap 36 player who scored 137 nett.

Uganda’s Charity Atuhaire and Ruth Akello shared the joined second position with 138 nett apiece as another Ghanaian, Letitia Amponsah Mensah was fourth placed with 143 nett.
