Meet Hon. Babirye Kabanda: The Masaka District Icon advocating for better education system
The Masaka District aspiring Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Mary Babirye Kabanda has demonstrated the need to transform the education system in Uganda by traversing the region and assisted thousands in fighting illiteracy among people.
The working relationship of people with the ruling government and President Museveni in the area has been awash before, but in order to ensure prosperity and development in the Country and overcoming limited resources among the community people and students, Hon.  Kabanda have advised them to embrace President Museveni initiatives.
Many have been grappling with school fees and scholastic materials but Hon. Babirye Kabanda has stood a taste of burying their worries in areas; Bukeeri village and Kamulegu suburbs by delivering free  goods and services to them in the area.
Hon. Mary Babirye Kabanda, remembered for her remarkable and charismatic approach in  demanding service delivery from the government in parliament during her first term as the Masaka District Woman Member of Parliament both as an educationist and a politician earned her great honor as ‘Owekitiibwa’ loosely translated as You highness by Buganda Kingdom Ronald Mutebi (11) remains a great example of an empowered woman in Africa.
The Director and founder of St Jude Secondary School in Kyabakuza, Masaka City made the remarkable submissions during the ONE on One interview with the writer and demonstrated her leadership abilities and readiness to deliver Masaka District out of poverty.
In her efforts to realize ‘Zero poverty and unemployment among the youth, Hon. Babirye shared that by delivering social and economic services and fostering Buganda Kingdom Cultural and social norms among the people of Masaka District tremendous development could be realized.
“I have already received permission from my friends and partners abroad to have our children work in European countries and also secure that those that could not be interested stay home and gain technical knowledge and training through the assisted funds and support they’ve promised to give me as the Masaka District Woman Member of Parliament come 2026 elections,” said Hon. Babirye Kabanda.
Hon. Babirye Kabanda has randomly been a leader of all and sundry, and a unifying factor in the oldest political party Democratic Party (DP) and has greatly been a committed leader in extending compassion and tangible social services to people.
As a timely formidable leader and a go-getter, Hon. Babirye Kabanda has prompted Masaka District locals to believe in her commitment and candidature as the Woman Member of Parliament come 2026 general elections.
Hon. Babirye Kabanda foundation activities of getting people out of poverty, many are confident in entrusting their votes to the founder whose efforts have remarkably inspired the young and old men and women in Africa thus far.
By nature, Hon. Babirye Kabanda is a hands-on woman, she has claimed solid trust in the public domain in Uganda.
 Both as a politician and social development ambassador, she has extended good education to the deprived local community children thereby giving out scholastic materials such as School Uniforms, Books, and bed sheets and beds for students in technical and formal schools has kept her aspiring for more.
Hon. Babirye Kabanda, married to Mr. Charles Kabanda, together they’ve championed the education system and made rigorous efforts in building schools; St Jude Secondary School and St Mary’s Primary School which have seen her paying school fees for over 4000 students and over 265 University students in Uganda.
Ahead of 2026 general elections, Hon. Mary Babirye Kabanda has attracted foreign sponsors such as Canada counterparts and founders in Germany who have all given out funds and tangible materials such as water tanks, scholastic materials and bursaries to deprived  students and locals in Bukakata Sub County have benefited a lot from the latter’s initiatives.
As for clarity, Hon. Babirye Kabanda, also a Masters Degree holder in Economics has made great efforts in championing compassion and looking out for the needy children in Uganda.
She has randomly made efforts in giving back to the community and one of the vibrating issues ahead of elections in Uganda on the latter’s manifesto are seeing zero poverty rate among the locals and exerting efforts in the infrastructure development in Uganda such as roads and schools and health centers in remote areas.
According Hon. Mary Babirye Kabanda also the founder of Hon. Babirye Foundation, they have already secured Canada sponsorship to cater for deprived children in Uganda.
“I labored to fight for the rights of the local people; built schools and fought land grabbing in Bukakata arrears and others during my first term in Parliament. I tightened the noose on President Museveni to scrap the Sugar Bill that had been proposed to favor European investors over the local business fraternity and the law was not passed,” shared Hon. Mary Babirye Kabanda, also the Woman behind the success story of Sports development in Masaka District who has delivered sports wears, and paid school fees to sports talented students in Uganda.
Hon. Mary Babirye Kabanda has enjoyed great appreciation from the Buganda Kingdom King Ronald Mutebi for her remarkable works in extending social and economic development to the people.
“I won’t be able to fight President Museveni; rather I will work with the winner of 2026 general elections as president to ensure that I get funds from the government and address crucial resources for our people. The only way to liberate Ugandans out of poverty is through working and fostering mutual relationships with the ruling government and the president,” Observed Hon. Babirye Kabanda during an exclusive interview with the writer.
According to Hon. Kabanda, she has grown and developed under the grassroots of Democratic Party and that’s why she was credited by the majority party leaders to work as the treasurer but that can’t stop her from enjoying independence and autonomous relationship with the ruling government.
“The Democratic Party is the best and Uganda’s oldest party. I don’t challenge the current presidency of the party but the main factor is to work with the ruling president of the country to end social and economic service irregularities in our communities rather than leaning on petty political parties misunderstandings,” she observed,” added Hon. Babirye Kabanda, who geared in by delivering fishing gears to fishers in Bukakata Parish to safeguard their lives while on shores of Lake Victoria during fishing.
Hon. Kabanda hails from a humble background and what keeps her going is to extend social services in Uganda to realize equal share of resources and the national cake among Ugandans.
“As for my tenure in Parliament come 2026 general elections, I promise a fair and objective approach of looking out to our people in the community and ascertain their needs and affect them by doing what they locals want. I have the potential to convince people and investors abroad to get us funding,” she said verbally.
She remains as a leader whose remarkable efforts in championing service delivery has won her honors including being the Chairperson of all privately owned Schools in Greater Masaka region and Uganda.
According to Mr. Peter Kayemba, the Local Council 1 (LC1) Chairperson Makonzi Village, Bukakata Parish, Hon. Babirye Kabanda has extended service delivery to the religious leaders and their churches.
“She delivered fishing gear to fishers and paid off courtesy visits and delivered resources for churches in different areas and priests and other religious leaders in mosques to brave for early recognition in fostering religious development in Uganda,” said Kayemba.
She has united the Democratic Party (DP) and ahead of 2026 general elections several leaders and supporters of the oldest party have united for a common goal in restoring the party’s glory.
