Dradriga Targets 800m Semifinal Spot
Uganda’s Tom Dradriga will be in action this afternoon as he lines up for the men’s 800 metres heats at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, hoping to book a place in the semifinals.
Dradriga is in heat two alongside defending champion Marco Arop of Canada.
The qualification format requires the first three finishers in each heat, along with the next three fastest across the seven Heats overall, to advance.
Dradriga, a two-time national champion, fell short of the semifinals at the last edition in Budapest, but he arrives in Tokyo determined to improve on that performance.
His race comes at a crucial point for Uganda, who are yet to secure a medal at this year’s championships.
Uganda claimed two medals at the 2023 Championship in Budapest, raising expectations for Tokyo.
