Mathias Walukagga pledges not to run as independent if not selected as the party flag bearer

Singer-turned-politician Mathias Walukagga has promised that he won’t run as an independent candidate if he is not selected as the party flag bearer to contest in the Busiro East MP race.
He made the stance, explaining that he is not ready to violate, overlook, and undermine his political party’s norms, laws, and rules that govern them.
“If I don’t secure the NUP flag, I won’t contest as an independent because I would have overlooked, undermined, and violated the party’s norms, laws, and rules, “Mathias Walukagga stated.
He promised to back the candidate who will be selected as the flag bearer to represent his party in the forthcoming 2026 general elections.
The Kyengera Town Council Mayor also vowed that he won’t act like the rest of the candidates who missed out on the party ticket and chose to contest independently, while others defected to other political parties.
The 47-year-old singer promised that he is willing to wait for the next term and general election if he misses out on this opportunity.
“I will not act like some of the NUP members who missed out on the party card and chose to run independently. No. I will wait. Time is still there. I’m not too old, I’m just 47. I can wait, ” he submitted.
