63rd AALCO session kicks off to unify Africa & Asia Legal experts in discussing international law.
Day 1 of the 63rd AALCO session

From 8th to 12th September, 2025, Uganda is hosting delegates to the 63rd Annual Session of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organisation (AALCO) session, at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kampala, gathering legal minds from Asia & Africa to strengthen international legal cooperation.

Legal experts from across Asia and Africa arrive at Speke Resort Munyonyo for a week of dialogue and cooperation at the 63rd AALCO Session.

While opening the session, Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anitah Among delivered a speech on behalf of H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni reaffirming the commitment to AALCOs objectives.

“Having last hosted AALCO in 1993, as Uganda, we are proud to host this year’s session and reaffirm our commitment to the organisation’s objectives, values, and vision for Asia and Africa” she said

She added that “The annual session is an opportunity for Member States to share ideas, build consensus & chart a collective course for the year ahead. AALCO remains the bridge through which Africa and Asia shape the global legal order with their unique values & aspirations”

Speaking at the 63rd Annual Session of AALCO, the outgoing President of AALCO, H.E. Mrs. Suphanvasa Chotikajan Tang, emphasised that AALCO remains the only enduring platform where Asia and Africa shape international law together.

He said that from confronting colonial legacies to navigating digital, trade and climate challenges, it has proven indispensable for dialogue and cooperation.

“From addressing colonial legacies to guiding today’s digital, trade, and climate challenges, AALCO has proven itself an indispensable platform for dialogue and cooperation. As Uganda takes over, AALCO’s future lies in honoring its past while shaping rules that reflect developing states’ realities. Together, Asia and Africa must reaffirm their role as custodians of a just, inclusive and rules-based international order” he said

The Speaker of Parliamentwas flanked by the   Justice and Constitutin Affairs Minister Hon. Norbert Mao, Foreign Affairs Minister Gen. Jeje Odongo, AALCO Secretary-General Dr. Kamalinne Pinitpuvadol,  Attorney General Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka among others.

AALCO Secretary-General Dr. Kamalinne during his remarks said that “With your wisdom and active participation, this session will be remembered not only for its outcomes but for reaffirming AALCO’s role as the collective voice of Asia and Africa in the development of international law”

It's nearly 70 years since AALCO’s founding, it remains a permanent forum where Asia and Africa come together to shape international law with over 48 member states.

The Kenya delegation was led by the Solicitor General, with NCIA represented by Millicent Shitakha, Manager BD, who presented the Centre’s progress.
