Afrie’s ”GGULU” album listening party session was lit

Ann Maria Nassanga alias Afrie, a filmmaker, songwriter, singer, and dental physcologist, treated close family, friends, fans, fellow artists, and the media to a listening session of her 12-track album “GGULU”.

The event that took place at the Bright of Benin Restaurant in Kampala was scheduled to start at exactly 4 PM but was slightly delayed due to a downpour that lasted for about an hour.

Later, when the stage was set, the Bungie Vil Ug Band kicked off the show as they performed a few songs. Ann Makula also hit the stage and pulled off a neat performance to the awe of revelers.

Afrie was welcomed to the stage with resounding applause by the revelers.

She hit the stage high in spirit and did not let her fans down as she danced to her music and gave breakdowns of the inspiration behind some of the songs.

“GGULU” (which means heaven) is Afrie’s first ever music album that she dropped a few weeks ago.

It is doing pretty well on different music streaming platforms, including Spotify, Amazon, and Tidal, among others. So far, it has hit 20k streams on Spotify and 10k  listeners.

She explained that she chose to name the album “GGULU” reasoning that she had to go through hell to get ggulu thereby overcoming tough times to enjoy the good moments.

She further explained that at a certain moment, she had quit music, she felt like a fish flying or a monkey swimming, and she didn’t feel that she looked as stylish as other artists.

On top of that, she lost a lot of money while trying so hard to promote her music which didn’t work out.

Afrie narrated how she went through depression for more than two years and used to cry in her room daily until her husband, Wake, uplifted her spirit and got back to business.

One of the major highlights at the event was Kenneth Mugabi joining her on stage to perform their collaboration “Gusula Wano” which the pair nailed to perfection, sending fans into wild cheers.

Mugabi performed two more solo projects, “Nakki” and “Sanyu”.

The journey to her album has been thrilling, full of ups and downs, and bitter-sweet feelings. She promises more good music.
