Caroline Marcah warns of drink spiking dangers in bars

Media personality Caroline Marcah, real name Caroline Mirembe, has urged people to exercise caution while partying after recounting her disturbing experience of having her drink spiked at a bar in Kololo, Kampala.
Marcah’s warning comes in the wake of the tragic death of 23-year-old Martha Ahumuza Murari, who collapsed at Meza Noir bar and was pronounced dead hours later.
In an interview with Spark TV, Marcah revealed that she had fallen victim to drink spiking on two separate occasions while working as a host at a bar in the same area.
She described how terrifying it was and warned that bars can be unsafe, especially for women.
You cannot be too careful; ugly things are happening in bars. Girls get spiked, and they are taken, and horrible things are done to them.
I had left my drink on the table, and security would bring it to me to sip while I was on stage. Suddenly, I felt like my voice wasn’t coming out properly, and before I knew it, I was being rushed to the hospital.
After receiving treatment, Marcah was advised by a doctor to obtain a police reference letter and seek security footage from the bar to help identify who might have tampered with her drink.
Unfortunately, her efforts were thwarted when the bar’s manager claimed that the security cameras had malfunctioned just hours before the incident.
I was sure I would find out who tampered with my drink, as my table was rarely visited by different people.
But this is a problem we have in bars—there’s no proper security, and when things happen, it’s like nothing can be done.
