FIFA World Cup Qualifiers: 5-star Algeria takes charge of Group G, Botswana edge Somalia

Group G Results

  • Uganda 1-0 Guinea
  • Botswana 2-0 Somalia
  • Algeria 5-1 Mozambique

Algeria moved three points clear at the top of Group G following their 5-1 win over visiting Mozambique in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Mohammed Amoura scored a hat-trick to move his campaign tally to five with Aissa Mandi and Jaouen Hadjam getting the other goals.

The win puts the Desert Foxes on 15 points, leaving Mozambique on 12 while Botswana who beat hard-fighting Somalia 2-0 and Uganda, 1-0 winners over Guinea, are on 9 points, six behind with four matches to play.

Action in the qualifying campaign resumes in September with two matches and two more in October to complete the qualifiers.

Only the nine group winners will qualify for the expanded 48-team tournament next year, with the four best second-placed sides playing off for a spot at an intercontinental tournament which will decide the final spots at the World Cup.
