The first round of the 19th Johnnie Walker Uganda Professional Golf Open has commenced at the lake-side Par-71 Entebbe club on Wednesday, 4th September 2024 under sunny weather conditions.

Over 100 professional golfers from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Cameroon, Cote D’Ivoire and Nicaragua are all in action for the Ug.Shs 150,000,000 (at least 40,272 USD) total kitty.

There are three female professionals who will be part of this championship with a debut for Evah Magala in the main open.

Magala will drive off with Kenya’s Jacob Okello and an amateur Joseph Cwinya-ai.

The other female is Irene Nakalembe, playing with the Kenyan duo of Erick Ooko and Mike Kisia, commencing 9:40 AM.

Flavia Namakula, the national head coach of team Uganda shall play with Kenya’s John Limb and Abraham Ainamani at 10:00 AM.

Defending champion Dismas Ndiza (Kenya) will tee off at 10:20 AM; alongside Deo Akope, president of Uganda Professional Golf Association (UPGA) and Emmanuel Opio Onito, son to the Uganda’s most successful amateur golfer, Sadi Onito (R.I.P).

Onito’s other brother Grace Ocici will also play in the professional open; and tees off at 11:00 AM with an amateur, Ibrahim Ssemakula as well as Clive Muchenje (Zimbabwe).

On-form Ugandan professional Ronald Rugumayo will play with Entebbe based professional Vincent “Araali” Byamukama and Kenya’s Samuel N. Chege, starting by 10:50 AM.

US based Ugandan Willy Deus Kitata drives off at 12:30 PM with Morton Kombai (Zimbabwe) and Dennis Saikwa (Kenya).

Round one comes after the Absa-sponsored Pro-Am was held on Tuesday, 3rd September 2024.

Rwanda’s Celestine Nsansuwera was the most outstanding professional during the Pro-Am event with 6-under 65.

Nsanzuwera and four other professionals will be joined by five amateurs for full board sponsorship from Absa Bank for the 2025 Magical Kenya Open Pro-Am sponsorship.
