CAF Women’s Champions League| CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers: Kawempe fall to CBE in semifinals

Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC quest to reach the final of the CAF Women’s Champions League agonizingly hit a dead end on Monday after falling to hosts CBE FC.

In the game played at Abebe Bikila Stadium, CBE scored late goals in either half to overcome a resilient Kawempe side.

The game was closely contested with either team finding opportunities to break the deadlock.

It was left back Mesay Temsegen who fired the hosts into the lead in the 44th minute with her ferocious strike from distance finding the back of the net.

Phionah Nabulime’s clearance fell into the path of Temsegen who struck well fron the rebound to fire the hosts ahead.

Kawempe returned recharged after the break and found the equalizer through youngster Shadia Nabirye who capitalized on a goal melee to find the back of the net.

With four minutes to the end of the game, Emedet Asfaw found the winner with goalkeeper Josephine Nambuya failing to dive to parry the ball away.

The result means CBE FC will take on Kenya Police FC in the final to determine the team that will represent CECAFA at the final tournament.

Kawempe Muslim will now battle for the third place playoff with Simba Queens FC.
