Uganda Cranes will fancy their chances against Somalia as they host the Group G minnows in their final home game of the World Cup Qualifiers.

The Cranes head into the clash buoyed by a resounding 4-0 victory over Mozambique, courtesy of a Rogers Mato brace and goals from Allan Okello and Elio Capradossi.

Coach Paul Put hailed that performance as one of the team’s best ever, a result that lifted Uganda to second place on 12 points, six behind leaders Algeria.

Only the group winner secures an automatic ticket to the 2026 World Cup, while the runners-up could still earn a playoff spot.

For Somalia, with just one point from seven matches and already out of the running, pride and the chance to dent Uganda’s campaign remain their biggest incentives. They have beaten the Cranes only twice in 23 meetings.

Captain Khalid Aucho, however, warned against complacency, reminding that this is an East African derby where “anything can happen.”

Uganda edged Somalia in their reverse fixture, Rogers Mato again proving decisive with a goal in Berkane, Morocco.

While World Cup qualification may still be a long shot, building a competitive side for the 2025 AFCON is firmly at the top of the Cranes’ agenda.
