Uganda Speaker of Parliament Congratulates Busoga Royal Family on Birth of Twin Princes

Kampala, Uganda: In a heartfelt gesture that has captured national attention, Anita Among, the Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, extended her warm congratulations to the Busoga Kingdom’s royal family following the birth of twin princes. The joyous occasion marks a significant cultural milestone for the kingdom, with the arrival of Prince William Ethan Nadiope and Prince Arnold Eli Nadiope on August 27, 2025, to Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV and Queen Jovia Mutesi.
In a post on X on September 1, 2025, Ms. Among expressed her delight, stating, “Sincere congratulations to you, Isebantu, the beautiful Inhebantu, the royal family, and the people of Busoga on this wonderful news! May the royals bring even more happiness to you and the people of Busoga! Congratulations.” Her message, which quoted the Kyabazinga’s official announcement, reflects a rare public alignment between Uganda’s political leadership and the cultural heritage of the Busoga Kingdom.
The birth of the twin princes has sparked widespread celebration across the region, with the royal household now expanding into a family of four. The Kyabazinga, in his announcement, described the event as a “deeply cherished milestone,” noting that both newborns and their mother are in excellent health. The arrival of twins holds special significance in Busoga culture, where they are traditionally viewed as symbols of abundance and divine favor, a belief echoed in anthropological studies of East African kingdoms.
Ms. Among’s congratulations come at a time when the Busoga Kingdom is preparing for the Kyabazinga’s 11th coronation anniversary on September 13, 2025. This event, themed “A Malaria-Free Busoga for Generations to Come,” underscores the monarchy’s efforts to address community health challenges while reinforcing its cultural identity. The timing of the royal birth has been seen as a fortuitous boost to these celebrations, drawing dignitaries and subjects alike to Bugembe for what promises to be a grand occasion.
However, the Speaker’s gesture has also reignited discussions about her public role. Ms. Among, who has led the 11th Parliament since 2022, faces international scrutiny following U.S. sanctions imposed in May 2024 for alleged corruption linked to her leadership. Despite this, her engagement with the royal family highlights her continued influence within Uganda’s political and cultural landscape, bridging the gap between governance and tradition.
The royal couple’s journey, which began with their nationally televised wedding on November 18, 2023, has been closely followed by the public. Queen Mutesi, who met the Kyabazinga during their university days at Makerere, has been celebrated for her promise to bring happiness to the kingdom—a promise now symbolized by the twin princes. Social media has been abuzz with well-wishes, with citizens and leaders alike joining in the euphoria.
